Seven years in Foremost

IT Management series
At last, I resigned from Foremost after service here for 7 years.
Management try to extend my service by proposing me to be General Manager at competency center in Malaysia.
I and my wife did the pre-assignment to choose for international school and apartment overthere.
It is such a luxury life. Everything seems to be perfect choice.
However, new opportunity found me. There is a new company searching for country IT manager via recruitment company.
I pass all tests and interviews. It is very hard decision to choose between go aboard or continue our life in Thailand.
Both company pay almost at the same benefit.
At the end, both of us (me and my wife) decided to stay in Thailand.
So I resigned from Foremost and will start my new career path at new company from 1 February 2010 onward.

การตัดสินใจเมื่อมาถึงทางแยกของชีวิต

ปลายปี 2009 ในที่สุดก็สอบ MBA ก็จบซะที วันนี้เป็นวันสุดท้าย
นั่นหมายถึงการยืดเวลาที่จะอยู่เมืองไทยก็ใกล้หมดลงทุกที
assignment ใหม่ของผมคือไปเป็นหัวหน้าศูนย์ IT Shared Service Center ที่มาเลเซีย
ต้องหาตัวช่วยใหม่ถ้ายังอยากอยู่ต่อที่เมืองไทย
ตอนนี้ตัวช่วยก็กำลังเดินหน้าเต็มที่อยู่นั่นก็คือการหางานใหม่ โดยผมสัมภาษณ์ครบทุกรอบไปแล้วรอฟังผลจากทางบริษัท
แต่ทั้งหมดก็ขึ้นอยู่กับโชคชะตา ที่จะเป็นตัวตัดสิน ลึกๆผมเชื่อว่าชีวิตนี้ถูกลิขิตมาแล้ว และหลายต่อหลายครั้งโชคชะตามีส่วนอย่างมากทำให้ผมมาถึงจุดๆนี้ได้
คุณเชื่อไหมว่าหลังจากผมจบปริญญาตรี ผมได้งานในบริษัทขั้นนำของประเทศจากการที่บังเอิญไปแช็ทกับ head of IT ต่างชาติท่านหนึ่งใน bullatine board system และแนะนำให้ผมมากรอกใบสมัครที่บริษัท จากนั้นชีวิตการทำงานทางด้านไอทีของผมก็ได้เริ่มต้นขึ้น
ครั้งนี้ก็คงเหมือนกัน ที่ไหนตอบรับผมก่อนผมจะเลือกทำงานที่นั้น เพราะโชคชะตาของผมถูกกำหนดเอาไว้แล้ว
แล้วคุณหละ เคยฝากชีวิตไว้กับโชคชะตามั๊ย?
ให้มันลิขิตว่าคุณจะต้องเดินต่อไปอย่างไร
อย่างช้าสุดสิ้นเดือนนี้คงรู้กัน

My first ordinary day after MBA completion

7 September 2009: Today, I just realize that my life back to normal. No need to hurry and make many decisions within one day.
No need to do the MBA project until late at night and prepare for presentation in the evening.
Because I already finish my MBA class.
I’m already back to my normal mode. Should I happy about my first relax day at office?
First thing, I think I must slow down my life speed a bit and familiar with it.
Anyway, my head still keep thinking what should I do, what should I do?

เปลี่ยนมุมมองธุรกิจด้วยการเรียน International Marketing

ผมพึ่งได้เรียน International Marketing Management จาก MBA class มา
ผมไม่รู้ว่าคนอื่นได้อะไรจาก class นี้บ้าง แต่ที่แน่ๆ มันเปลี่ยนมุมมองในการทำธุรกิจของผม
จากที่เมื่อก่อนอยากที่จะมีธุรกิจเล็กๆเป็นของตัวเอง โรงงานเล็กๆ หรือแม้กระทั่ง retail franchaise เล็กๆ
Dr. Aaron อดิตนักธุรกิจชาวสิงคโปร ได้ให้แง่คิดที่เปลี่ยนมุมมองของผมดังนี้
1) อย่าคิดการเล็กเพราะเราเป็นเพียง 0.05% ของคนทั้งประเทศที่มีความรู้ในการ run ธุรกิจอย่างถูกต้อง
MBA สอนให้เราคิดอย่างรอบคอบ และมีโอกาสล้มเหลวน้อยกว่าผู้ประกอบการอื่นๆ
2) การเปิดร้านเล็กๆ ปล่อยให้เป็นหน้าที่ของคนที่ไม่ได้เรียนมาดีกว่า หรือจะทำเป็น hobby business ก็ได้ แต่ต้องไม่ run เอง ใช้ manage เอา
3) ความยากที่สุดในการทำธุรกิจ คือการก้าวออกมาจาก comfort zone เพราะทุกคนกลัวความเสี่ยง แต่ถ้าจะเสี่ยงแล้ว เราเป็นคนที่มีโอกาสสำเร็จมากกว่าคนอื่น
จงใช้วิชาที่เรียนมา เพื่อคิดให้รอบคอบ ทุกแง่มุม ก็จะสามารถป้องกันความเสี่ยงได้แล้ว มันยากแค่ก้าวแรกเท่านั้น เมื่อก้าวออกมาแล้ว แรงผลักดันจะช่วยให้สำเร็จเอง
4) International business เป็นธุรกิจที่เริ่มง่ายที่สุด โดยเฉพาะการนำสินค้าจากต่างประเทศมาทำตลาดในประเทศ เพราะเรารู้จักประเทศไทยดีกว่าชาวต่างชาติ
ไม่ว่าจะเป็นแง่ของ วัฒนธรรม การเมือง life style ความต้องการ เศรษฐกิจ และ trend ของผู้บริโภค
5) ต่างชาติไม่กล้าเปิดตลาดเพราะขาดความเข้าใจในประเทศไทย ไม่รู้จะเริ่มอย่างไร วิธีที่ดีที่สุดคือการมองหาสินค้าจากต่างประเทศ และ match กับความต้องการในประเทศ
mix & match consumer demand คิดหา business model ของตัวเองที่มีความแตกต่างและยากที่จะลอกเลียนแบบ
6) เริ่มเปิดเกมส์รุกก่อน โดยเข้าพบผู้ประกอบการที่เราสนใจ และขอเป็นตัวแทนในการทำตลาดในประเทศ หรือภาคพื้นทวีป
7) หาตัวแทนจำหน่ายในประเทศจัดจำหน่ายสินค้าแทนเรา เราต้องทำการบริหาร business model และการขยายตลาดเท่านั้น (Think big)
8) การจะก้าวออกจาก comfort zone ใช่ว่าอยากจะก้าวออก ก็ก้าว ต้องมีความเหมาะสมทั้ง timing & opportunities ด้วย จึงจะสำเร็จได้
มันเป็นบทเรียนที่มีคุณค่ามากจริงๆสำหรับผม พอกันที่กับการเปิดร้าน franchise เล็กๆที่อย่างมากก็ได้แค่เพียง ไม่กี่แสนต่อเดือนถ้าธุรกิจดีมากๆ แต่ต้องเสียเวลาดูแลมันทั้งชีวิต
หรือขยายสาขา อย่างมากก็ได้ไม่กี่สาขา เพราะต้องมีคนที่ไว้ใจได้ในการบริหารร้าน ยิ่งสมัยนี้ การทำธุรกิจข้ามชาตินั้นง่ายมากๆ เพียงแค่มีเวปไซด์หน้าตาสวยๆ น่าเชื่อถือ ก็สามารถเป็นเจ้าของธุรกิจได้แล้ว ซึ่งมี business model อย่าง drop ship มาคอยแก้ปัญหาเรื่อง logistic ให้ยิ่ง start up ธุรกิจได้ง่ายยิ่งขึ้น เพียงแค่เลือกหาสินค้าที่มีจุดขายแตกต่างจากเจ้าอื่นๆ บวกกับความกล้าที่จะออกจาก comfort zone ตัวเอง แค่นี้ก็รุ่งได้

How important of Know How???

Company send me to test TOEIC in order to measure my English skill.
This project has been run up first time in 2006.
I have no problem with this test since I beleive that it should be fine with me if I can understand foreigner speaking English and I also can write project proposal in English. So I didn’t prepare myself and take the exam with confident.
For the listening part, I mark the answer without hesitate.
For the reading part, I read message sentence by sentence and read the group of questions and answer it one by one easily.
However, time’s never wait. Time’s up and I didn’t complete 40 questions on reading part!!
The result score in 2006 is 430 on listening part and 255 in reading part. Luckily, the minimum standard for my company is 650 but I got total score at 685.
This year, my company send me to test TOEIC again. This time I know already what is the pattern of the exam.
I just plan my testing strategy before going to the examination without reading or preparing, just planning how I will approaching the exam.
My strategy is to read the question and answer before the listening question part be started.
I do the same approach on the reading part, looking at the question and answers. Then searching for the answer from reading message.
This time I can complete all the questions before time.
The result score in 2009 is 480 on listening part and 405 in reading part. My total score is 885.
I gain additional 200 marks because of I Know How to approach the exam.
Stragegic Thinking

MBA: Financial management (nightmare from the past)

Did you know that I got ‘F’ for Financial management in BBA? It still stick in my mind for long.
In the old day, I didn’t understand a bit about this subject. I also don’t know the different between finance and accounting. Now I realized that it because I don’t know what is it application (how to apply it?).
Until I started to learn and interested in stock exchange. I found that FM will help a lot on my investment decision if I understand this.
I count the day to study this subject and also would like to get rid off my nightmare
I passion to know it so much until I decided to cancel free trip to Beijing to attend the class.
My strong wills never disappointed me, I got A grade for this subject.
When you are still young as new jobber, you will hardly realize how important of financial and how to apply to your job (especial in IT field, it looks like financial is another edge of the world from IT). But when you become manager level, you will know that every activity and application must contribute back to business objective. Financial ratio will be used to measure business success, shaping business strategy and telling us which area should be improved.
