MBA: My impress on Organization Behavior subject

Organization Behavior (OB) is my first subject in MBA which already finished. I got B grade which consider low grade, although I think I understand the whole concept and I also believe that I can do the final exam. Many students in the class also question about grading logic. This subject supposes not to be right or wrong, it is very subjective. It depends on how you would like to interpret your idea toward the theory. Anyway, instructor will do the final judgement on your idea and give you rating. It is totally proved that my instructor think differently from my idea.
Although I got bad grade but I still strongly believe that I got knowledge from this subject which also impress me. OB subject teaches me that in order to understand people behavior toward something, it should start from understand individual person. Each individual combines with 2 factors (heredity and ability).
  • Heredity will guide them in making decision base on past experience, it gives them motivation and also drive them to react to environment which they think it is rights to their feeling. People loves to stay in group and would like to be loved and accepted from the group or searching individual needs from the group base on Maslow hierarchy of needs.
  • Ability: Once they stay in the group, individual person will start to influence each other. The one who has stronger needs, stronger motivation skill will use his/her ability to influence others more easier. Someone in the group who has no experience on particular subject will looking for role model or leader to follow on.

 

Leader has been created from different situation base on his/her Heredity and Ability. Therefore there are many style of leaderships which suitable for different situation. Big group will become social and formal social will become organization.

Organization needs employees who believe in the same goal to improve organization to reach business target. Organization needs engagement and commitment from employees to fully contribute to organization mission. Employees also need organization to fulfill individual needs as return for their contribution. Employee’s needs are vary depend on their needs level in Maslow. Organization needs to find out their needs and balance it to get employee engagement. There are 2 kinds of engagement,

  • organization engagement
  • job engagement

There are many ways to handle the engagement for becoming good organization which I will not explain in detail but all of this are the heart of OB.

Nowadays, we can use IT to create corporate culture awareness faster by using e-learning platform and internal corporate social network channel. Company also can test each employees and use on-line quiz to check and remind their understanding.

Company also can use Net Promoter Score (NPS) on-line survey to understand the level of organization engagement, especially with their supervisor since most employee doesn’t resign because of company culture but their supervisor.

At the same time, company needs to create job challenge or special assignment to each employee with good proportion of recognition to let employees still engaging and proud with their job. 360 degree performance appraisal system may be a good employee tracking system to allow employees interaction to share their opinion toward supervisor and organization.

MBA Professional evening program is suitable for who?

Time is moving pretty fast. I already completed 3 courses of my MBA. I think it is much more enough for me to interpret the program.
Overall rating, I think MBA night program is quite good for experienced worker, not for first jobber or junior worker because you must learn each course within one month which has the same content as normal day program. In order to do that, you need to refer back to what you have seen in your working experiences.
MBA Pro-Eve will let you know the concept behind business operation routine in your organization. The final exam at each month end is the proven result that you understand the concept much more enough. Don’t expect that you will become the professional after complete all MBA Pro courses but you suppose to be a professional before attending MBA Pro-Eve. For me, this program is designed to suit my requirements.
MBA really helps IT manager, like me, understand how business is operating? How to apply IT to increase revenue or reduce cost? The heart of business is to create Return On Investment (ROI) and the heart of MBA is to acquire thinking concept how far we can go in each corporate function (including IT) and how those initiative link back to ROI?
It is enlighten me to understand why company must do this and that activities rather focusing on selling. It also guide me that some approach does not available in my organization yet and it will be great if we can adopt it. This means you must have some powers in your organization to change or adapt the processes. This kind of power does not available in first jobber or junior worker. Unfortunately, most of the students are those no power type (even senior manager like me may also facing difficulty in influencing top management for such new ideas). I believe that I’m the 2nd oldest student of the batch. Anyway, most of my younger colleagues decide to study this program because they already have routine job and this is the only program that convenience to them to attend after working hours because the campus is in the middle of the town. Some of them may just want the certificate (who know?).

จนผมกับภรรยาตัดสินใจหาสร้อยพระมาห้อยคอน้อง Geno จากนั้นก็ไม่ตื่นขึ้นมาร้องอีก แต่เราสังเกตุเห็นว่าบางครั้ง Geno จะแสดงความรู้สึกกลัวอะไรบางอย่าง เวลาเจอคนแปลกหน้าบางคน หรือรูปปั้นบางประเภท โดย Geno จะเงียบและก้มหน้าตลอดเวลา จนสังเกตุเห็นได้

ยกตัวอย่างเช่น เวลาพาไปบ้านแม่ แล้วเห็นรูปปั้น ร.5 ก็จะกลัวไม่กล้ามอง และก้มหน้าหลบสายตา หรือถ้าเจอกับญาติบางคนก็จะไม่กล้ามองหน้าและนั่งนิ่ง จนกระทั่งพ่อหรือแม่ต้องไปอุ้มออกมาจากจุดนั้นและพาเดินไปที่อื่น ระหว่างอุ้มไปที่อื่นก็จะคอยเหลือบมองเป็นระยะ พอไปอยู่ในจุดที่พ้นระยะสายตา ก็จะกลับมาร่าเริงเหมือนเดิม

เป็นไปได้ไม๊ว่า เด็กอายุ 1.5 ปีจะสามารถเห็นในสิ่งที่คนทั่วไปมองไม่เห็น???

ตอนนี้จะบอกว่าสร้อยพระขาดไปแล้ว แต่ Geno เองก็หายจากอาการหวาดผวาในเวลากลางคืนแล้ว

May – This is my month

May 2008: I was born in this month but this year it is a very busy year for me.
I didn’t expect any birthday greeting since I come back to my home almost midnight.
I run many projects in office from 9 to five.
Then I rush to study my MBA until late at night.
I expect that my birthday this year will be as same as another working day.
Wake up in the early morning.
Take a bath and get dress, prepare to go for work.
Walking down from upstair.
Why no one turn on the light today.
I heard the song along the way to dining table.
“Happy birthday to you, Happy birthday to you …..”
My wife and sons sing birthday song for me, how sweet. They didn’t forget about my day.
I eat cake as my breakfast and go to work happily.
I’m busy with my work and go for lunch and come back to finish my work again.
In late afternoon, all the light in my office black out.
I heard the song along the way to my room again
“Happy birthday to you, Happy birthday to you …..”
All my subordinates buy me ice-cream cake, how nice are they.
2 cakes in one day
I finish the cake and finish my work and finish my MBA study at the end of day.
Tired but happy.

A Catchy Word!

On the way to go for lunch, I drive my car with my son, Nano, sitting beside me. I notice that he keeps looking into my face and keep smiling.

Me: Nano, Why you are keep smiling when looking into my face?

Nano: BECAUSE, I’M SO HAPPY WHEN YOU STAY WITH ME AND NO NEED TO GO FOR WORK!!!

In fact, I plan to take leave on Nano’s birthday but there is no point since he also need to go to school. Anyway, Gob plans to buy birthday cake for him and bring to school. Therefore, he can enjoy his birthday with all his friends and learn how to share happiness

Can’t beleive I will go for MBA

March 2008: After I graduated from ABAC since year 1993, I talked to myself that I will never continue on Master degree anymore because studying is boring. I hate reading and memorizing for examination. Sometimes only hate cannot stop destiny.
Do you believe in destiny?
It started from Q4 last year. My next assignment in the company is to implement SAP in Eastern Europe. There was 3 years assignment by implementing SAP country by country, one year for each country starting from Hungary. It was really exciting decision because we need to move the whole family there as expat (cool isn’t it?). That is why I put in to one of ultimate goal as surviving my new job in Budapest!
Once the dead line came closer for contract signing, I and Gob felt uncertainty in leaving BKK. Last week before dead line, project director told me there was some change in implementation plan. The project will be based in Debrezen instead of Budapest. There is no international school for my kid in that city and people there hardly speak English. We think a lot how our children will live and Gob will feel lonely there. Therefore, I decided to turn down this opportunity. At the same time, I was looking for new job because it is the dead end for my career path now if I’m still working in company (I thought).
Within that week I got one opportunity as IT Manager in big car manufacturing company via headhunter but the compensation is almost the same as current company. I consult with my elder brother about this opportunity but he disagreed. I also think that it is not good solution if I change job just because I want to working in BKK. Therefore I declined new opportunity and talking to headhunter. She understood and convinced me that I should have master degree for further future growth. From that day, her idea is still running in my head.
The week later, I decided to talk to my boss in order to turn down opportunity in Europe with family reason. He asked me what will be my next move since I’m too big for the current position. There are only 2 options, grow outside Thailand (vertical growth) or horizontal growth (cross functional). So I told my boss that please give me a chance to go for MBA then I can move horizontally. My boss replied back immediately “I fully support you! We are always happy to invest in good people”.
Last week, I just apply for MBA with company scholarship. The only step to make this happen is to go for interviewing in mid of April. Then the course will start at beginning of May. I should change my first ultimate goal to ‘acquire MBA degree’
